Tis the season of giving…a special time of year when humans somehow remember, even if for just a few days, that moments are special. And that it is the simple things that hold the most value.
While this season is normally one of giving gifts in many forms, there’s one person who is often overlooked in this tradition.
There’s no particular reason for this except that, in this current reality, this being is powerful enough that deep levels of conditioning are required to make sure that power is never realized.
This “overlooked” being is, of course, YOU.
While the “Golden Rule” makes it clear that we are to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you…” there is no widely accepted rule to make a habit of doing the opposite:
Of doing unto yourself as you do to others.
Given how we are trained to treat ourselves, with the constant internal narration pointing out each of our many shortcomings, treating ourselves as we treat others would alone create a revolution powered by love, wholeness and compassion.
Can you imagine a world where you treated yourself as well as you treat others?
Where you showered “gifts” upon yourself as you do to others?
But isn’t that selfish?
That’s the program, isn’t it? You’re always thinking of yourself!
But who in the world does not ultimately receive when we offer to ourselves that which is needed for us to thrive and shine our light as brightly as it can shine?
These gifts we can give ourselves come in many shapes and sizes.
- Maybe the gift is forgiveness…
- Maybe it is focus…
- Maybe it is rest, or time, or love or compassion.
There are many choices. And my hunch is that we each know exactly what gift is most desired.
It matters not what the gift is, only that we give it.
There is great magic created by participating in the tradition of generously giving gifts.
But the entire world is enriched by making sure to include one for the person who greets you every morning in the mirror.
