Down the Rabbit Hole

For most of my life, my understanding of the word legal was that it meant, in accordance with the law… aka following the rules.
In the dictionary right now, which these days is subject to change (just look up the word fascism!), it says, “permitted by law.”
Yes, doing things that are “legal” does, in fact, mean “following the rules…”
But I was missing the last piece of the sentence that seems to have been overlooked.
What’s the rest?
…following the rules I have consented to follow.
Well that changes things just a bit, now doesn’t it?
Before adding that last part of the phrase, you can see that my understanding of “legal” was to follow the rules because THOSE WERE THE RULES!
Isn’t that what they tell you?
If you have any critical thinking ability at all, however, (I didn’t), you might question WHY those are the rules and WHY exactly they apply to you?
I found it interesting that apparently, in the 1893 Dictionary of Arts and Sciences, Encyclopedia Britannica, the definition of legal is quite different.
In that version of the dictionary, it simply means:
The undoing of God’s law.
Is it possible that the “legal” system is nothing like what we’ve been told? What is another name for a place where you are, by default, allowed to do nothing until some outside authority grants you permission to do it?
I’d say that sounds like a prison.
For the purpose of our journey together, we’ll go with these working definitions:
Legal is DEAD. Lawful is LIVING.
You don’t need an advanced degree to understand lawful. A human heart will tell you everything you need to know.
If you can understand the Golden Rule, then you’ve got 95% of the gist of “lawful” right there.
Legal, however, is the containment system to which you offer your consent to be bound.
It’s where most of humanity is at the moment. And it’s the location from which masses of beings will soon depart as they realize they have the power to do so.
