If you can get it out of your head that you’re trying to sell something, and get it IN your head that you’re showing up to lead your prospects somewhere they’re not capable of going on their own… you can shift the energy of your posture and position very quickly.
Selling sucks because you’re trying to manipulate a human to a result you cannot control. THEY HAVE TO SAY YES. You want them to say yes. And those two facts are what create all of the problems.
The hard core closers will give you endless strategies to deal with these two facts. If you want to be known as a salesmen, then follow what they say.
But if you want to be an advisor, you can’t act like a salesman. This is common sense.
Instead, you have to act like a leader. A leader who is going somewhere. When you’re clear about that, EVERYTHING CHANGES.
You don’t care if John comes along or if Susie is interested. You’ll ask them, but it won’t matter what they say.
Even if they say 2+2=5, you’ll say, “Great! Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out! Have a great day.”
Because their opinion doesn’t affect where you’re going.
Leaders are going somewhere. And that’s what makes them attractive.
