Magic Rituals

Each morning, I have three simple rituals.

The first is coffee. The darker the better (sorry coffee geeks!). This is the first 20 minutes of the day.

The second ritual is meditation. 20 minutes sitting alone in the dark house thinking about exactly nothing.

The third is hill sprints. 20 more minutes reminding myself to breathe deeply and also dealing with my cattle dog who thinks I’m some animal she needs to herd by nipping at my heels. (We have a complicated relationship.)

At some point in the day, I complete my fourth ritual, which is writing this message to you. This ritual began on July 27, 2011 and continues now over 10 years later.

From my perspective, anything worth doing is worth doing every day. And that’s what I do.

In fact, that’s the only way I’ve ever really been able to accomplish much of anything.

I’m not a disciplined person. I’m a rhythmic person.

Once the rhythm gets going, energy is made available to keep it going. I don’t know why it works, I just know it works.

The successful icons of the Matrix talk about having big goals. I don’t. I don’t have 1 year goals or 5 year goals or 10 year goals.

I have no idea what I’m doing tomorrow…except for the four rituals.

Those daily rituals lead to magical places.

So I guess you could say I have magical rituals.

Where do they lead?

I have no idea. That’s not really my concern. The rhythm creates the magic which allows the Universe to bring to me that which is right for me.

It’s the rhythm that matters, not my understanding of where I’m going.

I’ve stopped fixating on the goal and instead focus on the process…being present in the rhythm of life.

I just do what I do, every single day, and watch as the next scene comes into focus over the horizon.
